Happy 2024. I’m Lola! A Calgary photographer, ambivert, reader of self improvement, non fiction and romance/erotica books, wild woman, mother, music lover and professional shower singer.
Welcome to all the new faces and those that have been journey with me for a while now-good to have you back.
As a black woman that uses photography to help others feel seen, help to step into their femininity, find “HER” among the layers of narration that have nothing to do with her, and help to reclaim and reconnect you with who you once were all through captivating images.
I take this assignment very seriously.
A mouthful right? Ok, let me explain…
I have always felt like the odd one out.
I’ll give a few examples: Too loud, too opinionated, too much, too inquisitive, too fat, too skinny, too dark, talk too much, talks too much about sex/sensuality, and on and on.
Finding “HER”
I’m sure one if not all that has been of the listed you can relate to.
This is when I realized I was silencing “HER”, she is fearless, stands in her power, unafraid of the flames, challenges rhetoric and does so easily with a sassy smile on her face.
So the grand question is, why? How did I let this happen? I drank whatever was being sold.
Seriously, like first in line and brought my own cup. ” You’re a mother now”, ” You shouldn’t dress like that for your age”, ” Forget about feeling sexy unless its for your husband”, ” What will (fill in the blank) say/think?”
There are many great Calgary photographers but let me show you why my mission is to guide women to reignite a powerful sense of authenticity.
Welp, this Calgary photographer/artist got rid of any barriers that slowed her growth or became stagnant energy. I looked into how I wasn’t showing up for myself, began to explore my power and the reclamation process started here!
We are many things to many people but find it very difficult to be one thing for ourselves.
We find titles to describe who we are-but remain disconnected from who we are-does that make sense?
The reason I choose to do this type of photography is to help fill in the gaps.
I’m a boudoir and portrait photographer that choses to challenge every negative word, thought or story you have heard or participated in about yourself, and reintroduce you to “HER”.
